annual Virginia Press Association competition.
The contest is open to all members of the Virginia Press Association which includes hundreds of newspapers ranging in size from small weeklies to the larger dailies and including specialty publications like Virginia Living and Style Weekly.
Culminating with a twoday convention usually held in March, kudos are given to writers, editors, photographers and page designers by a jury of their peers.
This year entries were shipped off to Oregon and Washington to be judged by west coast journalists.
In the weeks ahead, advertising consultants from those same newspapers will be competing for awards on the advertising side of the newspaper business.
Sister papers in the Times Community family fared well in their respective categories as did The Fauquier Citizen, a Warrenton weekly recently acquired by the Times Community chain, which won sweepstakes for the sixth year in a row.
