Ruth is a bedside nurse on the cardiac monitoring unit'renal floor, where she takes care of patients with heart, lung and kidney problems. Because many of her patients have multiple system failures, she coordinates with specialists to produce the best possible outcomes. Ruth says bcinga part of the health of the community is tlx- most fulfilling part of her job. Her favorite patients are the mid lifers she sees coming through the hospital. "We see a lot of patients in their -Rfs with chest panes. ' Ruth says. "They come in here thinking they 're facing the worst, but, many times, it turns ottt'to be something less serious. These people realize they've been given a second chance, and they make the important decisions that can turn their lives around—such as quitting smoking I've seen the dev astation smoking can cause, so it’s a big reward for me to see these pet>ple change their behaviors ’
