I will bend on this, but for only two exceptions. The two best meals I can think of eating, the two things I would request for my last meal or my birthday, are one, breakfast at Mom’s, and two, her fried chicken with all the trimmings. The taste of these meals is so ingrained in my memory, such a part of me, that there is no way to improve on it.
There is something so set, so matter of fact about these meals, that the use of a pepper grinder seems more like sacrilege than an improvement. Nothing but store bought ground pepper will do on my eggs, no matter who is cooking. I don’t display the
