Every morning a male Carolina wren perches just outside our bedroom window and announces that it’s 6:30. TEA-kettle! TEA-kettle! TEA-kettle! TEA!
Outside we see a feisty little bird flitting around in the bushes near the house. Brash and bold, he cocks his head, leans back and sings again. Sharp, emphatic and powerful, the notes penetrate the morning stillness. The songs are repeated many times, and then change to a different pattern. ChoWE! Cho-WE! Cho-WE! Cho-WE! Cho-WE!
But he is not alone. Between songs there is a distinctive cicada-like buzzing from a nearby female, his worthy mate. She lets him know that she is there, that she can hear him, and that he is certainly a fine spec
