Tuesday’s loss to Group A Bull Run District rival George Mason came after Jason Jenkins struck out 14 in Rappahannock’s 6-0 win over Luray Thursday.
The George Mason-Rappahannock game featured one of the district’s top pitching duels with Jenkins and Tbdd Mendenhall. Jenkins scattered four, hits and fanned 11. Mendenhall allowed just two hits.
“I always give credit when you hit the ball, but it was mental and playing errors today (that led to George Mason’s win),” Jeff Jenkins said.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth when a single, a hit batsman, a walk and three errors led to George Mason’s three unearned runs.
Two errors triggered a fourth George Mason run in the top of the seventh.
Alex Sharp belted a two-run home run and Jason Jenkins added a pair of hits and an RBI in the win over Luray.
What made Jeff Jenkins most pleased was the offensive effort that Rappahannock displayed. The Panthers scattered seven hits. Karl Thornhill, Travis Jenkins, Chase Tupper and Nathan Hartshorn also had base hits.
