Community College who discussed the possibility of an Academic-Year Governor’s School for the northwestern region of the state. Interest in the school was unanimous, a planning committee was appointed to guide the process, and in January 2006 the General Assembly approved Mt. Vista Governor’s School. The application-based student selection process is now underway. Plans call for students from the seven participating school divisions to attend the governor’s school during morning hours (7:30-11 a.m.) and to return to their base schools for afternoon classes.
