Piedmont District

Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors

The Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County is seeking a qualified person to serve as the representative from Piedmont District to the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors in the place of Charles K. Estes. The applicant must be a qualified voter in Piedmont District.

The Board of Supervisors has regular monthly meetings on the first Monday of each month at the Courthouse in Washington, Virginia, at 2:00 PM for General Business and at 7:00 PM for Public Hearings, and at such other times and places as the public’s business may require.

The person appointed shall hold office until a special election is held on November 7, 2006. The person elected then will serve out the remaining term (ending December 31, 2007) of Charles K. Estes. The office of Supervisor from the Piedmont District shall then be filled by general election held in November 2007.

Applicants are required to submit a petition, consisting of the signatures, printed name and address of not less than fifty (50) registered voters of Piedmont District, which petition shall reference the signatories’ support for the candidate as Piedmont District Supervisor. Applicants shall submit a letter of intent for the position, which letter shall include a statement by the applicant as to their intent to seek the position of Piedmont District Supervisor in the special election of November 2006. The petitions accompanied by the letter of intent, are to be provided to John W. McCarthy, County Administrator, PO Box 519, Washington, VA 22747, not later than April 24, 2006, at 4:30 PM.

Upon review of the petitions submitted, and prior to making the appointment, the Board of Supervisors shall schedule a meeting to interview in closed session each qualified applicant. The person appointed shall be required to qualify by taking the oath of office, posting bond and filing a Statement of Economic Interests.
