‘Soul Flight’ are the result of many distillations within nature where birds began to appear as expressions of spirit and his own childhood memories surfaced as he researched their imagery. How provoking does one look upon the ‘Exchange’ and see the deep wisdom as a bird flies to an open hand, is tenderly regarded and then let loose. How powerful does ‘Phoenix’ bring despondency up into the higher ethers and what a travesty for man and hummingbirds to be chained to a false freedom in ‘Gibbet’.
In these renderings Kenny seeks to pull from the wisdom of religions, psychology, mythology and other artists. He sets about piecing the picture together he wants to draw and is seeking to trust the experience that some may not understand. He is opening himself more to trusting and intuition.
And then there is Kenny’s most recent work, “The Flame’.
Henri said, “The real artist’s work is a surprise unto himself,” for in this picture is an image of the art of the old masters. It is their making white, their sublimation, their resurrection because the white rises out of the dark earth and through the red fire becomes purified into an incorruptible body. The color of this extraordinary picture can only be appreciated on sight and indeed an inner rendering of my own heart came forth as I saw it
