Who gets the biggest piece?
The biggest slice (72 percent) of the school budget is made up of salaries and benefits for teachers, principals and other administrators - other than the ; Superintendent - as well as guidance, library books, •, expenses for teacher conferences, equipment and other expenses grouped under “classroom instruction*. This big bite amounts to nearly $8.5 million. .„r Seven percent of the budget is to run the school v * buses and pay the drivers. Another slice of the same size (7%) is headed “Operation and Maintenance" and pays for keeping the buildings clean, the heat on, and the lawns nicely trimmed. A six and a half (6.5%) slice goes to pay interest and principle on the school bonds. The dollar figure is more than three-quarters of a million. The tiny slice of just seven-tenths of one percent (.7%) is under the heading of “food service*.
