Brien Kelley worked as a laborer in Hampshire County in 1850. From there he came to Shenandoah County were he met and married first, Rebecca Funkhouser on August 26, 1858, and secondly Susannah Frye on December 7, 1863.
Dr. J. T. Kelly, son of Brien and Susannah, was a teacher and a doctor. He retired to Rappahannock County where he owned several hundred acres of land in the area of Piney Run northwest of Pig Nut Mountain.
Nephew, Charlie Kelley’s father was Frank Kelley whose wife had died when Charlie was but a baby and Dr. J. T. took Charlie in and raised him as his own. In the early 1920s Dr. Kelley bought land in Culpeper County
