RESOLUTION:
Charles K. "Pete" Estes
WHEREAS, the passing of Charles K. "Pete" Estes in the early morning hours of April 1, 2006, left this community deeply sorrowful, and this Board bereft at the loss of our friend and Chairman; and,
WHEREAS, Pete served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves, after graduating from Randolph Macon Academy in Front Royal, and attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg. He is survived by his loving wife and partner, Betty Anne Lillard Estes, his bride of fifty-one years, their children Kim, Ken and Susan and their spouses,'and by three beloved grandchildren, Michael, Ben and Julia; and,
WHEREAS, Pete’s political leadership was matched only by his extensive public service outside of the Board of Supervisors, whether one calls to mind his ten years as Sheriff, or his membership on the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission and Water and Sewer Authority, Pete’s was a life of service; and,
WHEREAS, Pete’s love for the community extended to volunteer efforts too numerous to recount in full, but including being a member of the Sperryville Business Council, the Sperryville Gateway Committee, the Sperryville United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department.
