Amazing grace
Gharles K. “Pete” Estes was buried on Tuesday of
this week. As was fitting a venerable figure in
the county, his funeral was well attended and the accolades he received spoke to not only the man who has served this county tirelessly but to the husband and father who loved his family beyond reproach.
There are many in this county that remember Pete Estes as an adventuresome young boy, as a patriotic young man who entered the service and as a focused citizen who devoted himself to community service.
There are many in this county who got to know Pete when he was sheriff or when he volunteered at the fire station or his church or turned up at the • school when his children were younger.
There are many that only recently were introduced to this lifelong servant of Rappahannock County and in that brief acquaintance knew that this man has • made a huge difference in the lives of the people here.
His legacy is the land - these rolling green hills unspoiled by development.
His vision and uncompromising commitment to hold fast to the sanctuary that this countv affords
