The Washington Town Council last week took a look at a design proposal for the control building that will accompany the town’s planned wastewater treatment plant. The council also approved $40,000 to perform an environmental assessment for the site of the plant and questioned what kind of inconveniences town residents and tourists can expect while the wastewater system is being built.
Lynchburg-based engineering firm WW Associates has been hired to construct the wastewater treatment facility, which will be located behind Avon Hall. During the council’s December meeting, council members • suggested that the engineers design a building that will fit in with the historical character of the town and “not look like a wastewater plant control building.”
Herb White, president of WW Associates, presented drawings of the building’s design at the council’s monthly meeting on Jan. 10, and council members expressed enthusiastic praise for the proposal.
The structure resembles a historic farm building, with a weathered-wood exterior and metal roof. The roof color, which was not specified in the proposal, will be chosen from the town Architectural Review Board’s approved list.
