Winners
Mrs. Lori Perry recognized the school winners of The National Geographic Bee, a national competition . sponsored annually by The National Geographic Society to test students’ knowledge on a broad range of geographic topics. The two finalists were John Morgan Christoph and Bret Heddleston, and Mr. Christoph will now go on to compete for a slot in the state level championship.
Certamen Win
On January 6, students from WCDS 7th and 8th grade Latin classes attended the 17th Annual Flint Hill Certamen at Flint Hill School in Oakton, bringing home three awards. Certamen is a competition that can most easily be described as a Junior Classical League version of “It’s Academic.” Using an electronic buzzer system, three teams at a time compete to answer questions on Latin, Roman history and culture, and Greek and Roman mythology. 80 teams from around the region attended the events which is known to be one of the most challenging in the state. The WCDS 7th grade team of John Morgan Christoph, Carina Klosson, Steven Marsh and Ryan Ochoa placed 8th in a field of 25 teams. The 8th grade team, which consisted of Bret Heddleston and Dylan Marchi, finished 4th out of 12 teams.
