“It was really like a fairy tale,” said Rappahannock High School principal Roger Mello, as he remembered his trip to Stockholm, Sweden for the Nobel Prize ceremonies. This past December, Mello and his two children John and Jennifer were whisked away to Sweden for the ceremonies honoring Roger’s older brother, Craig.
Craig Mello and his colleague, Andrew Z. Fire, were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine, for their work that discovered a method of turning off selected genes. Their method is called RNA interference and has become an important research tool in the field of medicine. Scientists hope that it
