ly and determinedly and with great skill, but more important to us, they loved Amber! They cried with us when we lost her. Medical expertise is wonderful but it means very little without caring hearts and hands to administer it.
We learned how an ill family member can overwhelm and take over your life. Amber was only a dog to most of you, but she was family to us. The round the clock nursing care and multiple vet visits per week and the constant worrying take a huge toll. We have not been ourselves this past month and everything not related to getting Amber well got put on the back burner. I can’t begin to imagine what a family with an ill child goes through.
But one of the lessons was also that there are friends and neighbors here to help. Friends offered to help carry Amber when there was only one of us available. (A lab mix is not a light animal!) Others offered to take care of her for a few hours if we needed a
