gram’s organizer, introduced Rev. Jennings Hobson, pastor of TVinity Episcopal Church, as the Master of Ceremonies. Rev. Hobson introduced many of the participants in . ^ the celebration. Lillian Aylor, president of the Julia E. Boddie Scholarship Committee which sponsored the occasion, announced that $1,000 had been collected at this event for the scholarship fund.
As in past years, a highlight of the afternoon was an extraordinary musical program that inspired enthusiastic audience participation and applause. Under the direction of Rev. Lemuel Montgomery, pastor of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church of Amissville, this talented group of about 40 voices from some 18 area churches, presented an afternoon of music and song that cannot be described in measured terms. It was joyous, powerful in volume, exquisite in quality, and inspiring in its message. Beginning with the singing of the National Anthem by Marie Davis-Roman whose voice was reminiscent, of Marian Anderson in its range and tonality, the choir also sang a number of other special arrangements. The most moving surely was the singing of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream" speech with individual passages beautifully sung or rhythmically read by different members of the choir.
