Rappahannock County’s varsity boys basketball team employed a strong team effort that paid off in an effective first quarter Friday at George Mason. The Panthers faltered, however, in the second and third quarters as the Mustangs eventually overpowered them 74-53.
All five Panther starters scored points in the first period, helping Rappahannock to a 1413 lead by the end of the quafr ter. However, the Mustangs outscored them 25-13 in the sec* ond period en route to a 38-2ft halftime lead. . >
George Mason built on its* lead by outscoring Rappahannock 25-14 in the third quarter > and held a 63-41 advantage > heading into the final period. ■ The Panthers outscored the 1 Mustangs 12-11 in the fourth quarter.
Freshman point guard Patrick Hanberry and senior forward Adam Gessner led Rappahannock with 12 points apiece. Senior guard Irving Smith added 11 points and juniori center Will Boelte chipped in nine points.
