“I figured, OK, somehow I’ve got to make a living,” Crump said. “I thought some way I could make use of my name. And thought, somehow, I might use the computer age to buy or sell horses.” Her elderly mother, Jean Crump, agreed to help, though neither knew anything about computers.
Crump said she could barely turn on her first computer, but, with the same can-do attitude she displayed at the track, Crump became computer literate and set up a small Web site to market local horses.
“We started small,” Crump said. “But as soon as I put horses up on the site for sale, the calls started rolljpg in.”
She was off and running.
