Miller disagreed. Referring to the Dominion bar chart depicting demand, he said: “We conclude whatever need there is (for electricity) can be solved in many other ways than condemning people’s land for a new transmission line.”
For example, people could do simple things like adjust their thermostat during the hottest and coldest days of the year to reduce energy use, Diamond suggested.
They also could replace incandescent light bulbs with fluorescent bulbs, which use a lot less electricity.
PEC recently launched a program called “Enlighten,” which promotes the use of fluorescent bulbs at home and work.
