Many of you will remember my column a few weeks ago telling you about our dog, Amber, who had been bitten by a copperhead. I’m sorry to tell you that we lost the battle this last week and had to put her to sleep. The venom triggered an infection that proved resistant to all antibiotics. It was a hard week here.
But as in all our life experiences, good and bad, there were lessons we learned in this as well. I thought today I would share' some of them with you.
We learned that medical science still doesn’t have all the answers. We tend to think that you have an infection, you take an antibiotic and you get better. But it doesn’t always go that way. While science does advance, so do the bacteria and viruses that mutate in ways that make them more resistant to our medicines.
