Aside from economic issues, Davis has been on the attack on several other fronts, charging that Trible’s voting attendance record is poor and that a Trible campaign memorandum was false.
The memo, intended for use within the Trible campaign, alleged that Davis aides sought union financial support during a meeting in New York City in August, and asked union officials to contribute to Davis after the financial disclosure filing deadline at the end of September. The money then would have been used for a late media blitz, according to the memo.
Davis charged that the memo was false and that Trible’s refusal to admit as much casts doubts on the ’’credibility” of the Trible campaign. Trible has defended the memo and said Davis is using it to avoid other issues.
On other occasions, Davis has emphasized his own military career. He served during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps, as a captain, and during the Korean War as a major. Trible was unable to serve in the armed forces because he could not straighten his right arm, a problem he suspects
