Last Friday, the Panthers bowed to Bull Run District opponent George Mason High School in a home contest, 7-1.
It looked good for RCHS at the outset with center Mike DelGrosso hitting the net on a penalty kick to give Rapp an early edge
But the Panthers visibly drooped after Mason booted a straight shot into the Rappahannock goal and less than a minute later, chipped in a second from the side to go in front, 2-1. Long shots from yards out went by the fullbacks and the goalkeeper and high shots boomed over Baines' head. The ball rarely traveled past the midfield line but when it did, the Panthers’ scoring attempts were effortlessly turned away. By halftime, Mason had stretched the lead to 4-1.
Back on the field for the second half, the RCHS squad played with renewed spirit. Still, the offense was unable to get rolling and at the same time, Mason rolled on.
