Consequently, it becomes a rejection of that vast body of Virginia citizens who have come to recognize that the political philosophy of Senator Byrd represents the only long range hope available to control government in Virginia, and indeed in the nation.
Davis, the Democratic nominee is substantially to the left of the senator in his political philosophy, based on his actions on issues as well as his performance in the past for political candidates, few of whom have shown any conservative learnings and most of whom have been unquestionably on the left. Davis's support of such candidates as Henry Howell, Admiral Zumwalt, and Jimmy Carter on two occasions, has shown clearly where his preferences lie.
