Later, when I reviewed the measure, I was dismayed to find that it was, indeed, a strong collective bargaining bill, complete with provisions for binding arbitration.
When Mr. Trible and his spokesmen are asked about these and similar matters, the questions are brushed aside as inconsequential, and usually with the return question, “When are we going to start talking about the real issues?”
Individually, perhaps, it could be argued that some of the items cited do not amount to much, although several others most assuredly amount to a great deal.
But in their totality they constitute a growing issue in the Senate race. Sadly, they demonstrate that the Trible camp appears willing to go far beyond the expected (and acceptable) license any political campaign may claim to interpret events in the light most favorable to its candidate.
