recent quotation from former Governor Mills Godwin, who says: “I share the Byrd philosophy of limited, responsible and conservative government with strict adherence to sound fiscal policy. We are about to elect a successor to Senator Harry F. Byrd, Jr., who has served his state and nation with distinction and great integrity for nearly forty years. As between the two candidates seeking to succeed him, the choice is clear and it must be Paul Trible. He has promised to continue in the Byrd tradition - something his opponent is unwilling to do.’’ The people of Virginia should think long and hard before they make such a drastic change by voting for the Democratic nominee. They should instead close ranks behind Paul Trible’s candidacy and send the word to the rest of the country loudly and clearly, that the spirit, conviction and philosophy of the former senior Senator of Virginia lives on.
