WASHINGTON, VA.—Theodore Cecil Gregory shot and killed his estranged wife's lover in a "sudden heat of passion upon reasonable provocation”, according to the Rappahannock County Circuit Court jury that convicted him last Friday of voluntary manslaughter and recommended he pay a $1,000 fine.
Gregory, a 31-year-old Middleburg horse trainer who had pleaded not guilty by reason of irresistible impulse, had been charged with first degree murder for the slaying of Howard B. LaBove Aug. 20, 1980, and could have received up to life imprisonment.
