Although the regular fuel assistance program has ended, the Rappahannock welfare office will continue to accept emergency fuel assistance applications, according to Kreitler. Requirements for qualifying are more stringent, however. Applicants must have run out of fuel or face utility shut-off and their readily available cash resources must not exceed $500, Kreitler said. In addition, families that have received benefits under the regular fuel assistance program are not eligible for this one-time emergency payment of up to $150. Applicants for emergency help with fuel bills must also meet the regular fuel assistance programs’ income guidelines, noted Kreitler.
