The latest manpower bulletin from- the Culpeper office of the Virginia Employment Commission has good news on the state of Rappahannock’s economy.
After topping 11 percent in September, the county’s unemployment rate dropped to 8.2 percent in October. The latest figure moves Rappahannock from the top of the unemployment ladder in the five-county area to the next-to-the-bottom rung. Only Fauquier County, with 5.1 percent of its work force idle, had a lower unemployment rate for the month.
For October, rates in neighboring jurisdictions stood at 13.7 percent in Orange, 10.6 percent in Madison and 8.6 percent in Culpeper. During the same month, the average for the Rappahannock -Rapidan Planning District was 10.7 percent, above both the state (7.8 percent) and national
