Shrewsbury Cakes 1 cup sugar 4 cups flour 1 tablespoon cinnamon and nutmeg, mixed I cup butter 3 eggs I Vi teaspoons baking powder Mix all dry ingredients and sift. Add eggs slightly beaten and butter. Knead this as well as you would for bread, until it is thoroughly mixed and easy to handle. Roll quite thin on floured board. Cut into shapes and bake in hot oven. This amount makes about five dozen average sized cookies. Walnut Wafers 2 eggs 1 cup walnuts 1 cup brown sugar 4 level tablespoons flour '/j teaspoon baking powder % teaspoon salt. Beat eggs lightly, chop walnuts. Drop mixture from small spoon on buttered pans and bake about 10 or 12 minutes. Christmas Nut Cakes One pound pulverized sugar, one pound meats of hickory nuts, and whites of six eggs. Beat eggs for half an hour, then add sugar and nuts last. Bake on buttered papers in slow oven.
