At present, the sheriff s department is dispatched by Culpeper as are emergency service units in Amissville. Washington, Flint Hill and Castleton. Chester Gap is dispatched from Front Royal and Sperryville’s rescue and fire companies have their own telephone dispatch system, occasionally calling on Culpeper for assistance since Rappahannock’s communications center is regarded primarily as a law enforcement dispatch system, funding for dispatchers’ salaries will come from the State Compensation Board. Last year, the supervisors contributed the 20 percent local share to match an $11,600 grant from the Rescue Squad Assistant Fund for the communications equipment.

This year, the board has allotted $2,500 in the county budget for the dispatch center. In 1982-83 expenditures, $2,104 is also allocated for the Rappahannock - Rapidan Emergency Services Council and $2,500 for the annual county fire school held in early fall at Amissville.

The total contribution in the current budget for emergency services, $7,104, represents a $4,164 increase over 1981-82.
