The Panthers came out with a much stronger press that succeeded in shaking up the Bulldogs but Luray managed to hold on to the lead in the third quarter and were in front, 36-34, at the state of the final period.
Continuing to press, the Panthers stole the ball nine times n the fourth quarter and after Mike Leake hit a short jumper, Rappahannock grabbed the advantage and held on until the buzzer sounded.
"We plan to use the press most of the year because we have enough depth to run eight or nine guys,” Dawson said. “Tonight was a superb show of team effort. Some players we started were a little weak but guys off the bench took up the slack. This was the kind of team effort that's going to win most of our ball games this year."
Coach Dawson singled out Myers, Jeff Porter and Pops Aylor for compliments on a super job of passing on the fast break. Dawson noted that a lot of games will be won by points from the fast break. By way of example, Rapp scored 36 fast break points against Luray on Monday night.
