Political analysts and experts continue in their efforts to explain and .1. terpret the results of the November 2nd election. Most, it seems, are coming to the conclusion that it was not significant; that we are, politically, just about where we went out. about six months ago, when the campaign began in earnest.

Those who have been looking for the political significance of what has happened have missed the central point. The election was not a contest between Republicans and Democrats, except incidentally, nor a test of the popularity or unpopularity of Reagan, or of Reaganomics. The campaign was’ but preparation, a setting of the stage, for the election night showdown among the three major television networks.
