Superior
“Talisman," the student literary and arts magazine of Wakefield School, has been awarded a critical rating of “Superior” by the Southeastern Interscholastic Press Association, according to headmaster William Lynn.
The school's one-year-old newspaper “The Hoot” received a “merit” citation for Class I newspapers in judging by the same association.
SIPA, a program of the School of Journalism of the University of South Carolina, annually judges hundreds of high school folk, art, and literary magazines and newspapers throughout the south and ranging as far west as Oklahoma. The superior rating ranks “Talisman” within the top grouping of such publications in the thirteen state region, the second successive year Wakefield has achieved such an honor.
“We strive with the magazine to represent quality contributions from ail grades,” noted faculty advisor Freeman Allan, “but our focus is on the more mature creative abilities of our juniors and seniors, whose writing best embodies techniques learned in successive preparatory level composition classes. It gives us great pride and satisfaction to have these abilities recognized favorably in comparison with other schools across the south.”
