Last month we had two puppies dropped off at our home. My wife called Mr. Bruce (county dog warden) and found that Rappahannock’s facilities for stray and lost or abandoned animals consists of two fenced pens with Mr. Bruce himself supplying the posts. Puppies are kept five days and then destroyed.
So, being humane people, we took the puppies to Culpeper. Their charge for out-of-county residents bringing in dogs is $20 per animal. In lieu of the $40 we would have paid for their keep and adoption, my wife donated volunteer time at the shelter.
