The Blue Ridge Open Sheep Dog Trial on May 14 and 15 in White Post will be the first open sheep dog trial to be held in northern Virginia. The trial will be held rain or shine at Sunnybrook Farm in White Post in Clarke County.

Top handlers and dogs in the country are expected to compete. Ada Karrasch, for years the top woman handler in the United States, is coming from Vandiver, Alabama, and Lewis and Ralph Pulfer will come from Quincy, Ohio. Bruce Fogt of Sidney, Ohio, winner of the huge Blue Grass trial in Kentucky in 1982, will bring several dogs. Other handlers are expected from Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas.
