training on the Fodderstack course say that this firsttime Fodderstack entrant will leave the others in the dust.
In the over-sixty category, Bruce reports a strong field, with locally-famous Ray Gordon, who holds the record in this class, and Rappahannock favorite John Marocchi. No word yet from Emily Vawter, who has been each Fodderstack to dat&. The Fodderstack hopefuls include a seventy-year-old entry this year who is the oldest registered so far.
Nor will the special classes be neglected, with Suan Cameron preparing to push a stroller for 10 kilometers and Diane Wood joining her with her infant son carried in a snuggly.
Two new classes will increase trophies: the 19-29 category has been split into two five-year segments as has the 30-39 class.
The first twenty men and women will receive special T-shirts, donated by Roy Wheeler Realty Company in Warrenton, the Fodderstack’s major sponsor.
Running
For Seniors
Look for an autographed white blouse in the Foddersstack race as Faye Crescenti has returned from Florida just in time to limber her limbs on the hills for the benefit of the Rappahannock Senior Citizens.
She raised over $320 last year by having individuals and businesses sponsor her at the rate of 10 cents, 25 cents, 50 cents, $1.00 and $5.00 per mile. Since the race is a bit over six miles, the two Amissville businesses who went for the $5.00 per mile, assuming the old lady could only do two miles, were surprised.
By doing some warm-up running in Florida, she finished the race, not first but certainly not last.
She and the special friends she serves hope the community will be generous again this year. Even though Faye has resigned a paying job with the Community Services of Rappahannock, she works very closely with the group at the Episcopal Church, giving at least one day a week with them and cooking for them at their summer cookouts on Skyline Drive.
Please contact Faye, Betty Jo Allison, Barbara Gentry or Alice Pullen. Any pledge is welcome and will be collected the two weeks following the race and the first week in May.
