Seldom has American interior design experienced a trend as popular as the country look. According to Phyllis Swindler, whose family owns Country Manor in Sperryville, Americana is expected to be just as strong for at least another year. Phyllis said that buyers for large stores expect that American antiques, pottery, toys, quilts and stenciled objects will be even more in demand than ever through next Christmas.
“And, every year, there seems to be one or two items especially popular,” said Phyllis. “In the last few years we’ve had pigs, chickens and unicorns. This year is expected to be the year of the teddy bear.”

cal shops offer a'Targe selection of items _ portraying barnyard animals, gifts of wood, pottery and natural fabrics, indicating that “high tech” has yet to make any inroads in this county.
For new homeowners just starting out with a decorating scheme, Phyllis recommends classics: white oak baskets of simple and durable styles, bright pieced quilts in traditional patterns, classic furniture of good design and construction.
