the second, particular sites are assessed for their economic and social importance as farmland. The Soil Conservation Service has computer programs that will help with land evaluation.

The farmland evaluation part of the system takes into account the soil capabilities, its productivity and potential. This part of the evaluation requires a technical committee made up of a local farmer soil and water conservation district director, extension agent, county supervisor and SCS representative.

The first step in evaluation is to choose which category the land fits in: cropland, forest land, or rangeland.
