According to Diane Bruce, Fodderstack Race chairman, five of the top twenty front-runners from last year’s fourth annual event have pre-registered this year and will gather at Flint Hill on Saturday to make this race the most competitive ever.
Bruce said that John Guthrie, last year’s number two man who finished in 37:14; Randolph Wingfield, number 16 with a time of 42:00; Phillip Strange who finished just ahead of Wingfield at 41:53; John Unger, number 12 at 41:40; and Frank Reynolds, number four last year and first Rappahannock finisher writh his time of 38:46, all plan to return to the hilly, scenic 6.2 mile course.
Guthrie did not qualify for the coveted Eva B. Smith award last year because of his part-time residency in the county. Race fans heard him remark then that he would be back this year as a full-time resident. If so, he will be a real challenge to two-time Smith award winner Frank Reynolds who has told the News
