over-supply a couple; one eggplant in a seven-gallon tub can yield two dozen young, tender fruit; two cucumbers in a seven-gallon container can produce over 18 pickling fruit; one sweet 100 tomato in a 20-gallon plastic trash can will keep the neighbor kids in “snacks" for the summer.
Don’t forget to supply each container with plenty of drain holes before planting. Water-logged roots won’t survive.
A variety of flowers and vegetables can be grown in containers. Some are better because they give such good yield in the space allowed or create such a massive show of flowers that they are a definite asset. The best vegetables include tomatoes, eKOT>lantB, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, Swiss chard and herbs of all kinds, especially parsley and chives.
The best flowers include impatiens, coleus, browallia and begonia for shades areas; dwarf marigold, vince and petunias are most durable for sunny spots but any low-growing flower will do well.
