Parson’s farm will be open only on December 1011 from 9-5. He will sell until he hits 100. The price is $3 per foot, minimum purchase $15.
Frank Mcwhirt, of Amissville, is also listed in the guide. His Chestnut Hills Farm is located on Route 611 just south of Route 211. He offers primarily white pine and has limited amounts of Scotch and Norway spruce. His farm is open daily from 9-5 until December 23. The prices vary according to size.
State officials say this year’s drought has no impact on this year’s supplies although last summer’s seedlings planted for future holidays were hurt. Bill Keim says his attraction rate due to the w'eather this year was high. Of the 1,000 trees he planted to sell in about six years, only 1/3 survived.
But state marketing agent J. P. Welch points out that the number of farms is growing each year. He says this means more and better trees for the consumer. He anticipates a hefty harvest for future holidays despite . the drought.
