Director Kiley deserves credit for bringing out the best in each. She received that credit on opening night when the cast called her to the stage and presented her with a bouquet in gratitude. The warm applause she and the cast received from the audience adequately gaged the public response.
If the intent was to remind residents of their roots in Rappahannock, the play was a success. For the audience left not discussing their private lives or even the powerful special effects and music, but rather reminiscing over the county’s history and almost competing to see who knew more about Rappahannock—a fitting activity during the county’s 150th birthday.
“Voices of Rappahannock” continues December 9-10 at the Gay Street Theater. Admission is $4.50 for the general public and $2.50 for seniors and students. The play is sponsored by RAAC and was funded by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy.
