Sixteen-year-old John Hostetter is gung-ho about his job search. This 9th grader placed a classified in the News seeking to earn Christmas money. He has both gumption and confidence. He says he can do “about anything—housecleaning, yard work, chimney cleaning.”
J.T. had fun watching the runners go by right in his own yard Saturday. He was especially impressed by the six-year:old who had gone 2Vi miles—that little girl, whoever she is, will be in the Olympics in a very few years; and remember, you saw her in Castleton first.
Phillip Strange (who lives in Castleton. gets his mail in Viewtown and votes in Amissyille) says he was most impressed by the performance of coach Ann Spieker and the guy from Fairfax who beat Frank Reynolds by more than a minute—also Merle won in her age group (we’re not saying what that is.) He says the run “was a lot of fun. a very huge success.” With only two months to organize he thought he did well getting about 50 people to take part and he’s ready to do it all again next year.
Well, those are the stories we have to tell this week. Hilly Suddueth turns 20 on the 12th if you want to help celebrate. And just remember what they always say—a fine thing to contemplate this time of the year: “The best things in life are free.”
