through Piedmont Tech and a school board sponsored art contest for students in grades 7-12. The winning pictures each year would be displayed in the school board office in frames to be build by the shop students. Winning students would also be presented with special awards during a school board meeting.
The Olympics of the Mind involves state and national competition for students able to demonstrate superior problem-solving abilities. It encourages creative and spontaneous problem solving.
Other activities which Rowe proposed to include in next year’s G&T programs are: making the Junior Great Book Series available in grades 2-12, offering creative writing, holding a science fair for students in grades 8-12 and possibly 7, holding a career day in the elementary school, expanding the government classes to begin in grade 4 and to include a Student Government Day, continued emphasis on communications in grades K-12, an art festival and a music festival for all grades, drama in all grades and making a summer creative problem solving course available to pupils in grades 1-7 who might want to participate in the Olympics of the Mind.
