In her remarks to the’ school board Schoppet agreed that the top priority had definitely been in the area of building improvements. “We need a new addition on the high school as soon as possible,” she said.. “It’s desperately needed right away.”
Then Schoppet told the board the committee had talked at great length about the need for an expanded G&T program. Specific suggestions Schoppet made included incorporating extra G&T books to give advanced students something extra to do in their classes to stimulate their ability, adding an extra English class and possibly even extending the length of the school year or the school day to offer more learning time.
During the same board meeting the G&T proposal from special services coordinator Pamela Rowe was accepted unanimously with the understanding that the board be kept updated on the program’s progress. Paul Nichols supported the motion providing “Miss Rowe is to coordinate and it is not to fall on the shoulders of our already burdened teachers.”
