Another dance doesn’t work. The cast performs a stylized depiction of the ebb and flow of the Rappahannock River in the opening scene. The device doesn’t work in an otherwise realistic play and confuses the audience.
What might be seen as another fault of the play is actually a virtue. The uneven performance of the cast members is the result of blending first-time performers with old-time pros, which is, after all, what amateur theater is all about.
