Zoning sessions
The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors Monday voted to hold two work sessions to informally discuss the proposed . county zoning ordinance.
Members of the county’s planning 1 commission will be invited to participate, as will Richard McNear, a municipal planner in Fauquier County who drafted the current proposal.
No vote on the proposal will be made during either of the sessions.
The first of the two scheduled sessions, which are open to the public, is scheduled for Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in the county’s clerk’s office.
Supervisors also scheduled a second session for Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. because “I don’t think we’ll get done in one session,” said board Chairman Hubert Gilkey.
BZA interviews
Rappahannock Circuit Court Judge William Shore Robertson News will accept public input and interview candidates who are interested in being appointed to the Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals.
Judge Robertson will interview candidates at the courthouse Nov. 15 at 3 p.m.
Two seats on the board are being vacated by Lee Bird and Jimmy Swindler, whose terms expire.
Appointments to the BZA are made by the circuit court judge.
The county board of supervisors was informed of the sessions in order to offer nominations.

Public schools tend to close more often because of snow and ice than because of rain,
This week, the downpours changed all that.
Still, and in a very short time, the cold weather will play havoc with the public school schedule.
When winter comes along — or if we get another week of heavy rains — and places the opening of school that day in doubt, an announcement to cancel school for that day will be made on any one of the radio or television stations listed below.
If no announcement is made, students, parents and teachers are expected to report to school at normal hours.
