Ms. Fink is an anomaly in the music world — a performer singing bluegrass and country songs that don’t always center on the themes of cheating hearts and honkytonk angels.
“The acoustic music scene is male heavy,” she said. “A lot of country music,' a lot of bluegrass music, is sexist, male oriented. There aren’t many songs that a woman can feel confortable singing.”
It feels “weird" to sing about some guy’s little darling, she said, adding that when she plays that kind of song with a male partner or with a group, she limits her contribution to joining in on the chorus.
When she goes solo, she chooses songs such as Little Darling's Not My Name, an original composition.
On another of her favorites, Queen of the Kitchen, the queen of the title decides to leave a relationship after waiting for years for her man to do his share.
