A Scrabble landowner intends to formally protest a building permit issued to the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors to construct an animal shelter near the abandoned Scrabble School.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde E. Dellinger, absentee landowners of property on Va. 626 across the road from the site, have decided to fight the board’s Sept. 9 decision to build a shelter at the school.
The Dellingers, represented by Washington attorney David Konick, complained that surrounding property values will decrease as a result of the dog pound, that a shelter does not conform to applicable zoning restrictions, that an increase in traffic will reduce their enjoyment of their property and “the fact that the board made this decision without any advance notice, public hearings or any other solicitation of, or opportunity for, input from the general public or adjacent landowners,” according to papers distributed to Supervisors.
Construction on the site has already begun.
